Success Principle #19- Use Feedback to Your Advantage

The Principle in a Nutshell: Feedback shows up verbally and non-verbally; use it constructively.   

Discussion: Whenever we attempt something new and share it with the world, we receive feedback.  Some positive, some negative, some verbal, some non-verbal.  What we do with that feedback makes a huge difference in how we continue.  If we accept all feedback from external sources, we risk cutting off from internal wisdom.  If we reject all external feedback, we risk getting lost in our own illusions.  Learning to be with feedback, trying it on for size and integrating what is helpful and letting go of what is not, is a skill that can serve us well.  


Sedona Method Release:


A. What’s a piece of feedback you’ve received that you wish you hadn’t?  Could you welcome the feeling of wanting to change that experience?  And, just for now, could you let go of wanting to change that?
B. What’s a piece of feedback you’ve received that you feel grateful for?  Could you welcome that feeling of gratitude?  And could you let it go?  (remember, when we release the positive feelings, they often get stronger and that’s fine as long as you are not gripping them)

Go back and forth between A and B at least 4-5 times.

Movement Activity:

Feel yourself reaching (as in asking) for feedback.  As you reach, notice if there’s a feeling of expectancy, wanting a certain answer as you reach.  If so, play with finding an exploratory reach without any attachment to the answer (you might try bouncing the reach).

Then allow yourself to feel the internal response to positive feedback and the response to negative feedback, any wanting to pat yourself on the back, or retreat.  See if you can feel in your body what it would be like if you took in the feedback, swirled it around in your body, integrated what was useful and let go of what was not?
