Smithson Clinic logo comes from the I-Ching, a Chinese divination text.
The symbol is known as the Ting and represents the sacred cooking
vessel where the inedible grain rice was transformed through the use of
fire and water into a nourishing food. A village or family would cook
their meals in the Ting, always sacrificing a portion for the gods, thus
enabling the life of the community to flourish. The Ting was part of
community rituals and became representative of new beginnings. Just so,
